GM DIET MADE EASY

After going through all the articles, I decided to try GM diet out. When I googled, I read from many blogs that many people had head ache and light headedness on the first day. I totally understood that because I had the same experience when I tried to be on fruits for an entire day few months back as part of a religious fasting. I ended up taking some rotis that night. So I decided to warm up my body to the diet. I wanted to prepare my body so that the GM diet will be easy for me. I started off by reducing my rice intake and substituting it with fruits and veggies. It was very easy and I felt very healthy. I did it for a week. I did the following:

PRE-GM DIET- (MY OWN DIET PLAN)

I took 1/2 cup of cereal with milk for breakfast everyday. Made Pulao with 1/2 cup cooked rice and about 2 cups of veggies. Had it for lunch with Raitha made with lots of veggies. For dinner I just had a fruit salad and milk before bed time. On the next day I made dhal with plenty of veggies like white pumkin, snakegourd, carrot, peas etc. I used only about 1 cup dhal and had it with 1/2 cup rice. That day I had 1 chappathy with 2 cups raitha for dinner and 1 cup of milk at bed time. On the third day I had dhal rice for lunch again and just a salad for dinner. I took pulao and fruit salad on the 4th day. The fifth and sixth day were the most challenging because I had to go to an Indian fair to help out my friend who owns a restaurant. I served hot samosas, pakoras, dosas and biriyani to the customers. I thought I was gonna break that day. To my surprise I wasnt even feeling hungry. Just because I didnt want to skip lunch, I took a handful of biriyani. In the evening I couldnt resist pani puri from the next stall. I took an apple for dinner and I was not hungry at all. I had already lost 3 pounds that week. I got the confidence that I could do the GM diet. I thought it was going to be easy. I was looking forward to do it. Will it be that easy??? Lets find out.......

GM DIET

DAY 1:
MONDAY, 8/16/2010
WEIGHT- 142.2 Lbs (Yeaaaaa.......I knowwww...)

I got up in the morning all excited. Something to look forward to. First thing I did was to get on the scale to weigh myself. Like I mentioned before I had lost 3 pounds already. So I'm at 142.2 before starting the GM diet. My Day went like this:

9 AM- 1 cup water, 1/2 CUP COFFEE (Can't live without coffee. I'll get severe headache without it and will spoil my entire diet plan. So made an exception.)
10.30 AM- 2 cups water, 1 APPLE
12.30 PM- Cantaloupe, Water Melon and Honedew melon
3.00 PM  - 2 cups water, Cantaloupe (My toungue craved for some salt and spices. So added mustard, hing and chillypowder in 2 drops of heated oil. Didnt tase great..But satisfied my craving)
5.30 PM- 2 cups water, 1/2 cup coffee
7.00 PM- 2 cups water, Cantaloupe, apple
10.00PM - 1 slice canaloupe, 2 cups water

My day wasnt too bad except for the fact that my tongue needed some variety. I took a 15 min walk in the treadmill and I was ready for the next day. I prepared some soup and boiled potatoes needed for the next day.

DAY 2:
TUESDAY, 8/17/2010
WEIGHT- 140.4

I had lost close to 2 pounds....woww... I got all excited...Ready for the second day.

7 AM- 1 cup water, 1/2 CUP COFFEE
9 AM- 2 CUPS WATER, 1 BOILED POTATO (Made with little seasoning)
10.30 AM- CUCUMBER SLICES
12.30 PM- STIR FRIED VEGGIES, 2 CUPS WATER
2.30 pm- cucumber, 2 cups water
5.30 pm- corn snack (frozen sweet corn boiled and seasoned), 2 cups water
8.30 pm- cabbage soup, 2 cups water

 I made the soup with canned tomatoes. added lots of cabbage, onions, peppers and celery. It filled me up good. I took a 10 min walk in the treadmill. This day was easy for me. But I was in for a surprise the next day.

DAY 3:
TUESDAY, 8/17/2010
WEIGHT- 141.8

My body was aching when I got up this morning. I thought that could be because of the disturbed sleep I had that night. I went straight to the weighing machine and was anxiously waiting for the number..... ALAS ...Is there something wrong with this machine???..I climbed down and tried again...no.. the machine is correct ...I had gained about 1.4 pounds from the previous day...I have no clue what went wrong..Could it be the canned tomato that used in the soup or the frozen corn....Anyways I felt a little depressed and decided to totally avoid cooked vegetable that day. I felt a little tired today. Maybe because I was disappoinetd at the gained weight. Anyways I was determined to get this going. My schedule was:

7 AM- 1 cup water, 1/2 CUP COFFEE
9 AM- 2 Cups Water, 1 Apple
12.30 PM- Vegetable salad with vinegar, 2 cups of water
3.30 pm- one slice of cantaloupe
7.00 PM- Grilled Veggies, 2 cups of water
9.30 PM- 2 cups of water, one small slice of water melon

The grilled veggies turned out to be very good. I marinated onions, green peppers and broccoli in salt, pepper and vinegar for about an hour and grilled them at 350 degrees for 30 min...It was yummy. Hope tommorrow will be a better day.

DAY 4
Thursday, 8/19/2010
WEIGHT- 139.4

Had lost around 3 pounds from where I started...Not bad.....I had some coffee in the morning. But didnt feel like eating breakfast at all. I lost my hunger. Feeling good about it.

7 AM- 1 cup water, 1 CUP COFFEE
9 AM- 2 cups of water, 1 Banana
12.30 PM- Treated myself with a Banana Milkshake made out of 1 banana and 1 cup milk. Took half of it. Came to about one cup
3.30 PM- 1 cup banana milk shake, 2 cups of water
5.00 PM- 1 cup coffee
6.30PM- 2 cups of water, 1 banana
9.00 PM- 1 cup milk, 1 banana
I can't beleive I had only 4 bananas the entire day. The best part was I wasn't hungry at all. Looks like the diet isnt a diet any more.

DAY 5
Friday, 8/20/2010
WEIGHT- 138.4

Lost 1 pound from yesterday. NOT bad....I spent a lot of time finding a substitute for Beef. Finally went to the grocery store and cheched the nutrition info of beef and compared it with egg and tofu. The main intention of having beef on fifth day is to get protein and iron back into our system and tofu is a good substitute. Egg has protein but no iron. Anyways I bought both. My day went like this.

7 AM- 1 cup water, 1/2 CUP COFFEE
9.30 AM- Omlette made with one egg and 1 tomato, 2 cups of water
12.30 PM- 2 tomatoes seasoned with salt chilly powder and lemon. 2 CUPS of Water
3.30 PM - 2 cups of water
5.00 PM- 1/2 cup coffee, 2 cups of water
7.00 PM- Grilled tofu with 3 tomatoes, 2 cups of water
9.00 PM 2 cups of water

Tofu was so filling that I couldnt even finish the tomatoes. Today was easy too.

DAY 6
Saturday, 8/21/2010
WEIGHT- 137.8

One of the toughest days since I started the diet. We were going to a friend's house for lunch. To add to my misery our car broke down on our way and we had to go to a restaurant for lunch. It was an Indian vegetarian lunch buffet. I was soooo tempeted to eat everything there but finally controlled myself and had just the salad. I'm so proud of myself :)

8.00 AM - 1 cup water, 1/2 CUP COFFEE
9.30 AM- Cucumber and Carrots, 2 cups of water
1.00 PM- Fresh SAalad with lemon and salt,2 cups of water
5.00 PM- 1/2 cup coffee, water
8.00 PM- Sauted vegetables with Tofu and egg, 2 cups water

DAY 7
Sunday, 8/22/2010
WEIGHT- 137.2

Finally the last day of diet. I was a little relaxed today. Was not too strict with the food. Made few exceptions to the diet.

8.00 am- 1 cup water, 1/2 CUP COFFEE
9.30 am- 1 glass Orange juice
12.30 PM- Rice with sambar and Collard greens
5.00 pm- 1/2 cup coffee
8.00 pm- fruits

DAY 8
Monday, 8/23/2010

The moment of truth.......Got on the scale.... My husband was more anxious than me....

The scale showed.................................

137.2

I was a little disappointed since I hadnt reduced any weight on the last day. But lost around 5 pounds total. But the real excitement came later.

A WEEK LATER

We went to a party the following weekend. Guess what!!!!!!!!!????? My favourite kurti is fitting just fine...I was soo happy. That was not all......... Everyone who saw me at the party asked me  if I had reduced weight.... Yipppeeeee.... Finally it was all worth it. And the best part is that my weight is very much in control even after the diet. I attended so many parties and I ate everything to my heart's content. But the weight is under control...I'm very happy about it. I'll definitely try this again.
